This pongal dish made from millet is very healthy and tasty. You can prepare it anytime for your child. It is extremely healthy as it is loaded with fibre, protein, and is gluten free as well.

½ cup varagarisi or kodo millet, 2 tbsp split moong dal, 1 tbsp oil, 1 tbsp ghee, 1 tsp cumin seeds, 1 tsp pepper powder, 4-5 cashew nuts, a string of curry leaves, 1 tsp grated ginger, water as needed, salt as needed
1. Dry roast moong dal. Keep it aside.
2. Wash both millet and dal in running water. Pressure cook dal and millet with 2 cup water and salt for 4 whistles.
3. Heat oil in another pan, add cumin seeds, pepper and cashew nuts. When cumin seeds starts spluttering; add grated ginger and curry leaves and saute for a while.
4. Pour this tempering over dal millet mixture and mix well. Cook the pongal over low flame for 2-3 minutes.
5. Add ghee and serve hot.
Varagarisi pongal taste best when served with sambhar and coconut chutney.
